Can I be feminine and an environmentalist?

Girl in a field

When you think of environmentalist, what do you think of? Me, I think of a granola eating, tennis shoes wearing, dreadlocks sporting feminist. The combination of stereotype tree hugger with “it’s just too out of the way” hinders many people from environmentalism. The truth is, there are so many easy ways to help the environment that aren’t out of the way.

So, can you wear high heels and lips gloss and still care about the planet? Yes.

We also offer parking, subsidized public transport, subsidized lunches, free onsite massages, a bike lending program, a program of paid days off, ESL classes and much more. Most importantly we guarantee job security and full-time employment; this is an anomaly in the garment industry, which has historically been dominated by seasonal work.

HOORAY FOR COMPROMISE! Seriously, though, girlie hippies are the best.

PS: I love this theme. To run the risk of sounding like someone else, could you make the grey text a little brighter? MY EYES. *sobs*

Meli, I cannot help it that your screen is not as bright as my MAC. >:]

All right, superbitch moment. I’m sick of people who ask “Can I wear dresses, lipstick, etc. and still be a feminist?” and suchlike questions. The answer, to me, is so painfully obvious. YES, YOU CAN. Feminism and enviromentalism don’t require that you look like a raging bulldyke. You can, if that’s your thing, but why people still believe that you can’t be both feminine and feminist is beyond me. Any educated person should be aware that the image of the bra-burning, non-legs-shaving feminist is a stereotype.

As for me… I love it all. Dresses, skirts, lipstick, camo pants, combat boots, jeans, geek t-shirts… all of these things have a place in my bedroom.

I think of a person in green clothes holding a “Save the rainforest”sign. Or something like that. Haha.

Ohh. Those brands sounds very smart, and good for the environment too:D

    Btw I’m twoyearslate from dA;)

  5. Meli Says:

@Jordie: ME TOO! My little sister actually has a camo dress… it’s pretty cool.

@LB: My screen is pretty bright, actually… that grey is still hard to read. X]

    What Jordie said! =P

The only thing I could never do (well, not “never” but it’s highly unlikely) is become a vegetarian. I eat red meat sporadically, though… but I can’t give up chicken. It’s beyond cruel the way chickens are treated in those rooster farms, but chicken is my savior! Ah, to be faced with an internal struggle.

Nice post, though I agree with Jordie. Feminism is about embracing differences, not ignoring them or trying to reconcile them with what we “think” feminist women should be. I get sick of how much we limit our own existence!

    @Sarahname and Jordie

Thanks for your input! I agree, just wanted to say that environmentalism and feminism are two completely different things, I hope you guys don’t think I was talking about feminism! :)
